Gary is living proof that God may surprise you with the plans He has for your life. He found that God used every detail to prepare Him for the journey ahead. After retiring from International Paper with over 30 years of service, Gary acknowledged God’s call to ministry and was ordained in 2019. In retrospect, he recognizes that God used a supervisory position that he never desired to train him in dealing with people. He learned to consider what others are going through, and to treat others with dignity and respect.
It is not uncommon for Gary to share how God has helped him through a difficulty to encourage someone who is going through a trial. God has taught him through experience the truths of Proverbs 3:5-6 and Psalm 37:4-5; the help we need doesn’t come from ourselves, but from trusting God to lead our life. This is where the hope is.
The Holy Spirit beautifully weaves Gary’s spiritual gifts, experience and wisdom from God to encourage and provide guidance to the board and many others. His desire for SMSC is to see classes expand to other schools so that more students can experience the love of Christ, first through our staff and volunteers, and to come to know Him personally.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV
Delight yourself also in the LORD,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring [it] to pass. Psalm 37:4-5 NKJV
Gary is currently serving as Minister to Senior Adults and Visitation at his church. He loves studying the books of The Bible, playing guitar and singing. Gary and his wife, Wanda, will soon be celebrating 45 years of marriage. He enjoys spending time with his wonderful children and grandchildren.
